We all know how painful it was to watch Adam Dunn over the past season.
It seemed to make more sense to give the Sox an automatic out rather than
have Dunn walk up to the plate. To his credit, unlike most professional
athletes in the same position, Dunn did not hide from the fact he was
struggling. To put things into perspective, according to
baseballreference.com in 2010, Dunn's Slugging Percentage was .536 and in 2011,
it was a mere .277. This is a man who agreed to come to the White Sox from
the national league and take on the role as a designated hitter. The best
part is he signed for over $50 million.
A frustrated Dunn recently commented on last years performance by saying
“It doesn’t matter where you go, everyone is talking about it. I realize that comes with that, but I really
can’t wait for Opening Day.” It is
obvious that Dunn wants to improve from last season and hopes to be successful
with the Sox. With a new coaching staff
in place, and a fresh season, all the tools for success are available to Dunn;
all he needs to do is perform. Let’s
hope the offseason has provided all the players, including Dunn with enough
time to relax and prepare for the upcoming season.
