A.J. Pierzynski, White Sox catcher, has been known as a man
who always finds himself in the middle of controversial situations. Most baseball fans are not very fond of A.J.,
but White Sox fans know that he will always come out on top. From his controversial drop third in the 2005
Playoffs to his incident with Chicago Cubs Michael Barrett, A.J. always seems
to find the spotlight. That spotlight
normally is controversial, but spotlight nonetheless. Quite often, A.J. seems to deliver for the Sox
in clutch situations. It may be a 2 out
walk or a homerun but time and time again A.J. delivers. Although he certainly is not the best
offensive player on the team, A.J. does his fair share to contribute. Recently, Robin Ventura said that he was
considering having A.J. hit in the two spot. Although A.J. is not the typical player
batting second in a lineup, Ventura believes he will succeed. Ventura said, “Not that he steals a lot of bases, but he handles the bat and does the
appropriate things. He's always a tough out. He's one of those guys who will
hook it if you have to or put it the other way if they shift on him." Obviously Ventura thinks very highly of the
catcher, one of only two remaining players from the 2005 World Series
roster. I think that all White Sox fans
can agree with me when I say, I am glad that A.J. is on our team and not an
opponent.
