As we enter the month of March, a few important events come
to mind. St. Patrick’s Day, spring
training, and St. Baldrick’s Day, just to name a few. The Chicago White Sox have always been
extremely involved in giving back to the community and helping out charities in
any way they can. From their split the
pot raffles at every home game to the wives of current players sponsoring a
food drive, the White Sox are involved in improving the lives of others.
More recently, White Sox starting pitcher, John Danks, once
again shaved his head for the St. Baldrick’s foundation. According to a story by Sox beat writer,
Scott Merkin, titled “Danks goes clean-shaven for a great cause” Merkin
describes how close to home cancer hits for Danks. His cousin was diagnosed with leukemia and is
now in remission. Danks believes that
his small action of having a teammate shave his head can have a major impact on
the cancer foundations. He said, “this
isn’t any big deal, it’s the least I could do.”
The actions of these players has a tremendous impact on charities of all
kinds. The remainder of this article can be found at http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120301&content_id=26942452¬ebook_id=26944036&vkey=notebook_cws&c_id=cws
